find

Walks a directory tree looking for files matching name, type, size, or age — and can run a command on every match.

Find by name, act on matches

SHELL

1find <directory> -name "<pattern>"

2find <directory> -type f -mtime -1 # files modified in the last day

3find <directory> -size +100M # bigger than 100MB

4find <directory> -name "*.log" -delete

5find <directory> -name "<pattern>" -exec <command> {} \;

-delete and -exec ... -delete-style commands are irreversible. Run the find without them first to see exactly what would match.
